1
For, behold, the Lord Jehovah of Armies is removing from Jerusalem and from Judah the stay and the staff, all of the stay of bread, and all of the stay of waters;
2
the hero, and the man of war, the judge, and the prophet, and the diviner, and the elder;
3
the commander of fifty, and the lifted up of face, and the counselor, and the wise in silent muttering, and those who understand incantation.
4
And I will give lads for their commanders, and babes shall rule over them.
5
And the people shall be oppressed, a man by a man, and a man by his companion; the lad shall bear himself up against the elder, and the reviled one against the honored.
6
Then a man shall lay hold of his brother of the house of his father, saying, Thou hast raiment; be thou a captain to us, and let this stumblingblock be under thy hand.
7
In that day shall he lift up his voice, saying, I will not be one who binds up; for in my house is neither bread nor raiment; make me not a captain of the people.
8
For Jerusalem stumbles and Judah falls, because their tongue and their doings are against Jehovah, to rebel against the eyes of His glory.
9
The obstinacy of their faces answers against them, and they tell their sin as Sodom; they conceal it not. Woe to their soul, for they have recompensed to themselves evil!
10
Say ye to the just one, that it is good; for the fruit of their actions shall they eat.
11
Woe to the wicked! It shall be evil; for the recompense of his hands shall be done to him.
12
As for My people, their taskmasters are babes, and women rule over them; O My people, thy leaders cause thee to go astray, and swallow up the way of thy paths.
13
Jehovah shall set Himself up to plead; He stands to make the cause for the peoples.
14
Jehovah will come into judgment with the elders of His people and His princes; and you have burnt the vineyard; what is robbed from the afflicted is in your houses.
15
What is it to you? You crush My people, and grind the faces of the afflicted, says the Lord Jehovih of Armies.
16
And Jehovah says, Because the daughters of Zion are haughty, and go with the throat stretched out and with deceptive eyes, walking and mincing as they go, and wearing ankle bands on their feet,
17
the Lord will afflict with scabs the top of the head of the daughters of Zion, and Jehovah will make naked their buttocks.
18
In that day the Lord will remove the adornment of the ankle bands, and of the lace, and of the crescents;
19
the pendants, and the small chains, and the spangles;
20
the headdresses, and the leg ornaments, and the ribbons, and houses of the soul, and the earrings;
21
the rings, and the jewels above the nose;
22
a change of vestments, and the veils, and the shawls, and the needle cases;
23
the mirrors, and the sheets, and the tiaras, and the large veils.
24
And instead of spice there shall be decay; and instead of a girdle, a ripping around; and instead of braided work, baldness; and instead of a robe, a girding of sackcloth; a welt instead of beauty.
25
Thy mortals shall fall by the sword, and thy strength in the war.
26
And her entrances shall sigh and mourn; and she being innocent shall sit on the earth.
